AUSTIN, TX — Texas National Guard Joint Counterdrug Task Force members with support of the South Texas High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Program (HIDTA) held classes to train and refresh local and state law enforcement officers in Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) May 31 through June 1, 2022, in Laredo, Texas. Texas Counterdrug members use their experience and medical skills in tactical situations to teach law enforcement officers how to initially react to a medical emergency while in the field. The officers also practiced hands-on application such as applying pressure dressings and tourniquets. This course is based on the Tactical Combat Casualty Care course developed by the U.S. Department of Defense Defense Health Agency (DHA) to teach evidence-based, life-saving techniques and strategies for providing the best trauma care practices on the battlefield; TECC has been adapted to field conditions and situations law enforcement officers may face in the field while performing their respective duties.
