Sgt. Nolan Hicken, a scout team leader with Charlie Company, 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, and a native of Provo, Utah, had the opportunity to go through the Marine Corps’ Mission Release Program, which allows members of the Church of Latter-Day Saints to complete a two year mission through their church while serving as an enlisted reservist in the Marine Corps.
“My experience as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints who is a Marine has been a very spiritually inspired one. I have truly felt God's hand in my path to help serve my Country and His Church.
I specifically remember when I first talked with my recruiter and heard about a special program that allowed me to serve a full time mission, as well as, become a Marine and I can truly testify that God's influence helped me down that path and has led me to an amazing and incredible place in my life. To me ‘Semper Fi’ is not just the Marine Corps’ motto, but a spiritual declaration that I’ll always be faithful to my God, my Country, and my Corps’ Semper Fi.”
Sgt. Hicken is currently attending Utah Valley University and in the Spring of 2022 was selected for the Platoon Leaders Class Program, which is an undergraduate commissioning program that allows full-time enrolled college students to commission in the Marine Corps.
