DIEGO GARCIA, British Indian Ocean Territory (Oct. 31, 2022) – Sailors assigned to U.S. Navy Support Facility (NSF) Diego Garcia, U.S. Navy Divers assigned to the submarine tender USS Emory S. Land (AS 39), and U.S. Marines assigned to Fleet Anti-terrorism Security Team Pacific (FASTPAC) pose for a group photo after working together to provide security for the Ohio-class ballistic-missile submarine USS West Virginia (SSBN-736) during a port visit at NSF Diego Garcia. FASTPAC is comprised of platoons capable of rapidly deploying to immediately improve security at United States Government installations worldwide. This port visit to Diego Garcia reflects the United States’ commitment to the Indo-Pacific region, and complements the many exercises, training, operations, and the other military cooperation activities conducted by Strategic Forces to ensure they are available and ready to operate around the globe at any time. West Virginia is one of six ballistic-missile submarines stationed at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Georgia, and is capable of carrying up to 20 submarine launched ballistic missiles with multiple warheads.
