SAN DIEGO (June 18, 2010) Cmdr. Elizabeth Hofmeister briefs the top 10 patient tips during the 2010 Refractive Surgery course. Hofmeister deployed in 2009 to Afghanistan and was assigned as the deputy command surgeon at the Combined Security Transition Command. While deployed she led a 125 person team of U.S. military medical personnel who helped the Afghanistan National Army and Afghanistan National Police establish an educational system that would train and prepare Afghan medical professionals to create and sustain a collaborative, interconnected health system.
