Alaska Air National Guard Maj. Jeff Boesche, left, and Capt. Cory Schaeffers, both pilots with the 168th Operations Group, prepare Santa’s upgraded sleigh, a 168th Wing KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft, for departure to Eielson Air Force Base as part of Operation Santa Claus at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Nov. 22, 2022. Operation Santa Claus is the Alaska National Guard’s yearly community relations and support program that provides gifts to children in remote communities across the state. After landing at Eielson AFB, Santa and more than a dozen helper elves transferred to two Alaska Army National Guard Black Hawk helicopters and delivered 650 pounds of gifts, backpacks, hygiene supplies, and books to 65 children in Minto.
