U.S. Air Force Senior Airman David Dunson, 17th Special Operations Squadron AC-130J Ghostrider aerial gunner, operates a Bushmaster GAU-23 30mm chain gun during a full mission profile as part of exercise Keen Sword 23 at Misawa Draughon Range, Japan Nov. 16, 2022. The 17th Special Operations Squadron participated in Keen Sword 23, which is a biennial, joint field training exercise involving U.S. military and Japan Self-Defense Force (JSDF) personnel in the vicinity of Japan to enhance Japan-U.S combat readiness and interoperability. The 17 SOS’ participation of Keen Sword supported the Agile Combat Employment strategy via light logistics packages, to include bringing the ammunition needed for the duration of the exercise and the personnel needed to execute.
