A drug transfer is disrupted by the arrival on the scene of a Coast Guard helicopter and 87-foot patrol boat. The helicopter was dispatched from the Helicopter Interdiction Tactical Squadron (HITRON) in Jacksonville, Fla. HITRON forward deploys armed helicopters to high threat drug trafficking and high risk security areas. The Coast Guard follows a continuum of force is such in law enforcement situations: the helo crew will first order suspects to stop via a bullhorn announcement; if they do not respond, bullets are fired across the front of the bow. If that fails to stop the vessel, bullets are then fired at the boat's engines. US Coast Guard Art Program 2005 Collection, Ob ID # 200531, "Caught," George Rothery, acrylic, 16 x 20
