Naval Facilities Systems Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Public Works Department (PWD) Great Lakes civilians and local volunteers celebrate National Public Lands Day by planting a pollinator garden and native tree species. Participants planted an 800 square foot garden near the Navy Gateway Inn and Suites with native pollinator-friendly plant species, laid mulch, and installed signage on Sep. 20, 2022. Additionally, 6 maple and oak trees were planted south of Bldg. 1H on Oct. 5, 2022. National Public Lands Day is celebrated annually in September to bring volunteers together to help restore public lands across the country. Funding for these projects was provided by the National Environmental Education Foundation and the DoD Legacy Program. (U.S. Navy photo by Taylor Bozman/Released).
