GREAT LAKES, Ill. (Nov. 8, 2022) Surface Warfare Engineering School Command Great Lakes (SWESC GL) staff discuss the training curriculum of deck-hand Sailors at the USS Whitehat to Vice Adm. Rick Cheeseman, front, Chief of Naval Personnel, during a visit to Naval Station Great Lakes accession training sites. USS White Hat, known as the “ship in a bottle,” is a partial replica of a ship at Boatswain’s Mate “A” School used to train the Navy’s future Boatswain’s Mates. The visit included touring facilities and engaged with Sailors at NETC schools for surface warfare, combat systems and advanced swim preparation, including observing the latest in modernized training methods for hands-on and virtual reality simulations. Vice Adm. Cheeseman also engaged with Recruit Training Command recruit division commanders and recruits, while observing various phases of boot camp. As the Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) Officer for the Navy, Vice Adm. Cheeseman leads the development of initiatives to integrate and implement strategic DE&I initiatives into Department of Navy’s culture, policies, programs and core functions. His responsibilities include overseeing Navy Recruiting Command, Navy Personnel Command and Naval Education and Training Command.
