    ALEXANDRIA, Va. (Oct. 12, 2022) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Institute for Water Resources takes part in discussion on Africa’s water challenges with six Malagasy ministries and government agencies on the development of sustainable, practical steps Madagascar can take to improve its water security in a two-day workshop in Antananarivo, Madagascar. In her remarks to the group, U.S. Ambassador in Madagascar, Claire Pierangelo (pictured) stated, “Access to clean water is a critical human need and essential to the commercial and agricultural needs of the nation.” This event was sponsored by the United States Africa Command, and included representatives from the U.S. Embassy/Department of State (DOS), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the United States Geological Survey (USGS), UNESCO International Hydrologic Program (IHP), United States Geological Survey (USGS) and the World Bank.
