U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Emmanuel Ortiz, motor vehicle operator with Headquarters company, 6th Marine Regiment, reviews a vehicle inspection checklist with two Marines on Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Oct. 11, 2022. "You can’t base your Marine Corps experience off just your first duty station,” Ortiz says. “One of my old staff NCOs had a really big impact on all of us and at the time. I didn't really have a good concept or idea of the Marine Corps. He kinda switched my mind around, got my motivation up and basically showed me how a top tier SNCO should be like. How he cared for us, sharing his knowledge, or just outside of the work space how a decent human being should be. And all that he did inspired me to be the same that he was to me and give it back.” Ortiz was identified as a “Follow Me" Marine in efforts to share the stories of 2d MARDIV Marines who have recently re-enlisted.
