SAN DIEGO (Oct. 21, 2022) Newly pinned Chief Operations Specialist Richard Adams passes through the "sideboys" and is accepted into the chief petty officer mess by Command Master Chief Patrick McCormick during a ceremony aboard amphibious transport dock USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26). The rank of chief petty officer was established April 1, 1893 and once a year the U.S. Navy advances selected Sailors to the rank. John P Murtha is homeported in San Diego.
