U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Zachary Whitmore, an F-35B power line mechanic with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 262 (Rein.), 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, conducts maintenance of an F-35B Lightning II jet aboard Amphibious Assault Ship USS Tripoli (LHA 7), in the Philippine Sea, Sept. 21, 2022. F-35B maintainers, supported by Sailors operating a crane for lifting, regularly perform maintenance to ensure the aircraft’s readiness for flight operations. Whitmore is a native of Greeley, Colorado. The 31st MEU is operating aboard ships of the Tripoli Amphibious Ready Group in the 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
