Lt. Spencer Gibbons, from Albuquerque New Mexico, attended Albuquerque Academy and University of Arizona, and is currently Navy Medicine Readiness Training Unit Everett Dental Department head and general dentist.
“As a team, we ensure that our patient population of over 3,600 Sailors are dentally ready and we provide the highest quality care to our patients while promoting a culture of safety,” explained Gibbons. “We project out with the nine cruisers and destroyers that fall under our readiness and work with their independent duty corpsmen and hospital corpsmen to make sure they meet the benchmark [operational] readiness goal of 95 percent.”
Gibbons attests that being part of the Navy Medicine team as a Dental Corps officer has allowed him to develop personally as well as professionally.
“It means learning about each other and coming together to utilize the different strengths of each person to grow both personally and as a team so that we can provide the best care possible to our patients.,” said Gibbons, adding the best part about his career has been “opportunities to travel in Japan and make friends who I never would have met without being in the military.”
When asked to sum up his experience in Navy Medicine in one sentence, Gibbons replied, “through the ups and the downs, as a team, we accomplish the mission.”
