Meet retired Dental Technician 1st Class Eugene Houston Eades, Oral Surgery’s front desk clerk/dental assistant, from Marysville and Lindhurst High School Olivehurst, California.
Eades’ daily supports the Navy surgeon general priority on operational readiness and core mission of ensuring force medical readiness with a ready medical force.
“Along with Operational Readiness Department we'll communicate with all personnel needing treatment for an appointment,” said Eades, noting that he also works directly with local independent duty corpsman to schedule timely oral health care and prevent dental disease.
Eades attests that the best part of his career in civil service is being able to help others in need. “It's an added bonus being at the same command for the past 24 years, with knowledge – and continuity - picked up to pass on to new members,” he said, adding that his ‘haze gray’ underway time were the most memorable of his active duty days. “My sea going tours were serving on amphibious dock landing ship USS Germantown (LSD 42) and supply-class fast combat support ship USS Rainier (AOE 7).”
For Eades, being part of the Oral Surgery clinic is completely predicated on putting service before self. “Helping others, such as remembering some seaman who may not understand how things work and going the extra steps to assist them,” explained Eades.
When asked to sum up his experience with Navy Medicine in one sentence, Eades replied, “With today's Navy and military, flexibility will be the norm.”
