How demanding is the workload for Navy Dental Corps and dedicated support staff?
NMRTU Bangor Dental Department provides timely patient-centered care for active duty members from all military branches, over 20 submarine commands and approximately 55 tenant commands.
Last year (2021) alone they performed 102,962 dental procedures, 9,921 dental lab procedures, with 17,208 dental patient encounters. The department also converted more than 7,100 dental records to the new Physical Records Tracing System, providing a more streamlined tracking method for dental records.
Additionally, critical cross room inspection for 22 dental operatories were implemented to ensure standardized supplies for each working space effectively reducing any shortages and meeting stringent Joint Commission standards.
The Dental Department team also supported approximately 160 hours of asymptomatic COVID-19 testing for 730 Sailors from 19 commands, as well as demobilization screening in just three weeks for 385 activated Reservists also helping with COVID-19 relief efforts.
