PACIFIC OCEAN (Aug. 5, 2022) – Aviation Ordnanceman 3rd Class Bret Searles participates in an ordnance handling evolution as an elevator operator in the lower cargo ammunition magazine aboard amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), Aug. 5. Elevator operators are required to keep watch and communicate information regarding ammunition transfer in order to prevent safety hazards. Makin Island, flagship of Amphibious Squadron (CPR) SEVEN, along with 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), is currently underway conducting integrated training in the U.S. 3rd fleet to prepare for an upcoming deployment.
