PACIFIC OCEAN (Aug. 10, 2022) – Machinist’s Mate Fireman Deyne Benemerito, right, and Machinist’s Mate Fireman Recruit Phong Do clean a clogged seawater strainer for an air conditioning unit inside the fire pump room of amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), Aug. 10. Conducting maintenance is necessary to prevent buildup from clogging the tubes and causing a ship-wide air conditioning outage. Makin Island, flagship of Amphibious Squadron (CPR) SEVEN, along with 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), is currently underway conducting integrated training in the U.S. 3rd fleet to prepare for an upcoming deployment.
