1AF's Detachment 3 successfully completed a validation exercise designed to verify the ability of United States Air Force "Guardian Angel" Pararescue specialists to operate with aircrew aboard U.S. Navy MH-60S Seahawks to, if needed, rescue astronauts at sea. The joint team will support NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration's upcoming Crew 5 launch. "The integration with Navy helicopter crews and the Air Force pararescuemen was successful," said Col Jason Gingrich, First Air Force, Air Forces Space Air Deputy to United States Space Command. "We worked out joint solutions for human space flight support operations (HSFSO) with our counterparts from Fleet Forces Navy and NASA. Also, United States Space Command provided great oversight and support for this vital HSFSO mission."
