This true-color modis.gsfc.nasa.gov Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) from the terra.nasa.gov/ Terra satellite was captured on November 23, 2002. Across the southern U.S., fires were detected by MODIS and are marked with red dots. In many states, fall is a good time for prescribed burning, but some of these detections are wildfires, for example, several of the ones in Oklahoma (top left).
