Dr. Karen Keil (ERDC), Tori Harms, Dr. Mike Habberfield and Bryan Hinterberger represented Buffalo District at the annual Great Lakes Area of Concern Conference, held this year in Muskegon, MI on 25 and 26 MAY. The conference had been postponed twice due to the pandemic, so the occasion marked a major milestone on our march to normalcy. The conference is always an excellent opportunity for interagency collaboration and information exchange and this one boasted the highest attendance to date. This photographs shows a poster submittal at the session.
A key theme this year, although a mantra for the program, is to GET “STUFF” DONE. The AOC Program has been a wildly-successful story for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, but an influx of infrastructure funding will create unprecedented opportunities and challenges to implement projects and execute funds through 2030. USACE has been a longtime contributor to the AOC success story through support of the Great Lakes Legacy Act Program, Economy Act Projects, and delivery of our own programs. We’re up for the challenge.

The conference was also well-attended by our friends at LRE, LRC and LRD.
