Fall comes earlier than the calendar says in Siberia, and has already begun to steal the green from the Siberian landscape, with fading vegetation appearing in shades of gold in this modis.gsfc.nasa.gov Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image from the terra.nasa.gov/ Terra satellite, captured on September 10, 2003. Several large fires have been detected by the sensor and are marked in yellow. Traces of green remain along rivers and on forested ridges.

The high-resolution image provided above is 500 meters per pixel. The MODIS Rapid Response System provides this image at MODIS' maximum spatial resolution of http://rapidfire.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/gallery/?2003253-0910/Russia.A2003253.0145.500m.jpg 250 meters.
