The building is named in honor of Lt. Knight, a U.S. Army Air Forces P-47 Thunderbolt pilot awarded the Medal of Honor for two days of heroic flying in Italy’s Po Valley in World War II, destroying 14 grounded enemy aircraft and leading attacks that wrecked 10 others before being hit by ground fire and dying in a crash while returning to base.
