Across the grassy plains of Paraguay (right) and Argentina (left), scattered fires were burning on April 12, 2003. Fires detected by the modis.gsfc.nasa.gov Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the aqua.nasa.gov Aqua satellite are marked with red dots. In the bottom center of the image, the Paran River flows as a light brown, muddy line. The purplish-brown areas to the west and east of the river are wetlands.

The high-resolution image provided above is 500 meters per pixel. The MODIS Rapid Response System provides this image at MODIS' maximum spatial resolution of rapidfire.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/gallery/?2003102-0412/Paraguay.A2003102.1755.250m.jpg 250 meters.
