A takio drumming performance, which plays an important role in Japanese festivals, is held during the Tanabata Star Festival in Iwakuni, Japan, July 10, 2022. The Tanabata Star Festival, originating from China, dates back thousands of years; people today celebrate the festival by hanging their handwritten wishes on bamboo trees and welcoming the summer season. These events, hosted by the Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni Japanese American Society, are designed to introduce SOFA members to Japanese traditional dressing, games, and customs, further strengthening the bond between the U.S. and Japanese locals.
