U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Europe District Project Engineer Chris Bailey and Quality Assurance Engineer Jüri Saljukov check progress on a bulk fuel storage facility under construction at Amari Air Base in Estonia May 12, 2022. Projects like the bulk fuel storage facility increase the capacity for flight operations at the base, which is one of the sites where NATO’s Baltic Air Policing Mission operates from. Over the past several years, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has delivered various projects in Estonia and neighboring Baltic countries Latvia and Lithuania through the European Initiative (EDI). Under the EDI program military infrastructure is built to enhance the U.S. deterrence posture, increase the readiness and responsiveness of U.S. forces in Europe, support the collective defense and security of NATO allies, and bolster the security and capacity of U.S. allies and partners.
