Sailors from the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) install the base of a memorial to Ben Abels, who died in the devastating 2004 tsunami, at the Home and Life Orphanage. The work was part a community service project Sailors participated in during a port visit in Phuket. John C. Stennis is returning to U.S. 7th and 5th Fleet areas of responsibility four months ahead of schedule in order to maintain combatant commander requirements and Navy assets in the region. The U.S. Navy is constantly deployed to preserve peace, protect commerce, and deter aggression through forward presence. Join the conversation on social media using #warfighting.
