220526-N-YQ181-1020 PHILIPPINE SEA (May 26, 2022) Fire Controlman 2nd Class Bryan Story, from Las Vegas, reports that an MK15 Phalanx Close-In Weapons System (CIWS) is prepared for a live-fire exercise aboard America’s only forward-deployed aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). The CIWS is a ship self-defense system used to intercept air and surface threats. Ronald Reagan, the flagship of Carrier Strike Group 5, provides a combat-ready force that protects and defends the United States, and supports alliances, partnerships and collective maritime interests in the Indo-Pacific region.
