A joint service color guard assigned to the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command escorts possible remains of a fallen service member onto a C-17 Globemaster during a repatriation ceremony in Vanuatu Sept. 24, 2012. Two specialized JPAC recovery teams deployed from Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, to excavate separate aircraft crash sites in Espiritu Santo and Mavea, searching for evidence of four individuals lost during World War II. The Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command conducts global search, recovery, and laboratory operations to identify unaccounted-for Americans from past conflicts in order to support the Department of Defense's personnel accounting efforts.
