Menken was a 3rd ID Soldier in the Korean War serving with the 3rd Bn., 15th IR, and was reported missing in action after being wounded by artillery fire while guarding Outpost Harry on June 10, 1953, on a road to Seoul, Republic of Korea, in what is now the Demilitarized Zone and his remains were unaccounted for until Feb. 2, 2022, and then repatriated to the place Menken called home.
