Members of the 8th Infantry Association watch as fellow association member Colonel Nick Johnson retires from the Illinois Army National Guard. Col. Johnson commanded the 1st Battalion, 178th Infantry Regiment based in Chicago's General Richard Jones Armory. The 1/178th Infantry holds the lineage to the famous all African-American "Fighting" 8th Infantry. Johnson would go on to brigade command with the 65th Troop Command.
