On May 12, 2022, Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune honored a team of Daisy Award recipients. Director for Nursing Services, U.S. Navy Capt. Alison Castro, far right, presented the Daisy Award to nursing staff from NMCCL’s Adult Intensive Care Unit.
The honoree team included: RN Ed Ota, not present for photo, accepted by Lt. Cmdr. Rafael Rios, second from right, Lt. j.g. Tracey Farris and Lt. j.g. Stephane Coker, third from right.
The Daisy Award is a national recognition medical facilities use to acknowledge nursing staff who exhibit exceptional care to their patients. The team was nominated by the sister of a COVID-19 patient.
According to the nomination excerpt, “My sister Trish was hospitalized with COVID and they all cared for her with such dignity, amazing medical knowledge and outstanding compassion. It’s an honor to have met them, even though Trish passed. We will never forget their sacrifice for our Country…She was more than just a patient, she was one of their own- family.”
