PACIFIC OCEAN (April 27, 2022) – Seaman Mary-Anne Medina, left, and Boatswain’s Mate 3nd Class Andrew Scamfer set an anchor chain brake in the foc’sle during an anchor drop test aboard amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), April 27. Brakemen are necessary to facilitate control of the anchor to prevent shipboard damage and personnel injury. Makin Island is underway conducting routine operations in U.S. 3rd Fleet.
