PACIFIC OCEAN (April 9, 2022) – Sailors retrieve a guiding line in the well deck aboard amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), April 9. During refueling, the guiding line is used to maintain the appropriate distance between the ship and the fueling station to prevent damage to the ship or injury of ship personnel. Makin Island is a Wasp-class amphibious assault ship underway conducting routine operations in U.S. 3rd Fleet. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 3rd Class Eloise A. Johnson)
