SAN DIEGO (April 7, 2022) – Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Handling) Airman Evan Kirkland demonstrates proper baton handling after being sprayed with oleoresin capsicum (OC) spray, also known as pepper spray, during a Naval Security Forces Sentry qualification course for Sailors assigned to amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) April 7. Sailors participate in NSFS courses to qualify as armed watch standers. Makin Island is a Wasp-class amphibious assault ship homeported in San Diego.
