220309-N-N0485-0003 NEWPORT, R.I. (March 09, 2022) An Officer Candidate School (OCS) student from a senior class provides guidance on how to properly index the combination cover as junior students prepare for an Officer Personnel Inspection (OPI) at Officer Training Command Newport (OTCN), Rhode Island, March 9. OPI measures a candidate’s knowledge about any topic eligible for inspection and checks for confidence and competence while wearing the seasonal uniform that will be worn for graduation. OCS morally, mentally, and physically develops civilians and fleet sailors into newly commissioned officers and imbues them with the highest ideals of honor, courage, and commitment in order to prepare graduates for service in the fleet as Naval officers.
