U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Laura McWane, a heavy mobile equipment mechanic at the 117th Air Refueling Wing, Alabama Air National Guard traveled to the 165th Airlift Wing in Savannah, Georgia to perform annual training and upgrade training requirements for her career field under the instruction of members of the 165th AW Vehicle Maintenance team. In her civilian capacity, she manages her family-owned farm in Alabama and she said she chose a career in the Air National Guard that would tie into her life on the farm. She now has the ability to work on farm equipment, like tractors and trucks. McWane said when she was younger she had considered joining the military but it wasn't until she found out about the Guard option was she able to make her dream of serving in the military and continuing on her family's farm.
