Saeed, a cleaner at a health facility in the Al-Amad village in the Aden Governorate in Yemen, stands outside the facility’s bathroom in October 2021. In Fiscal Year 2021, USAID funded the rehabilitation of water and sewage systems that serve this and other health facilities, providing more than 1.5 million people in Yemen with sustainable access to clean water, improved sanitation services, and hygiene information to prevent the spread of communicable diseases such as COVID-19. “Sanitation services are essential for men’s and women’s health,” Saeed said. “I work hard every day to keep the toilets clean, which prevents diseases from spreading, and protects patients’ health.”
