Ali, a doctor, stands outside Alwihda Health Center in Ad-Dhale Governorate, Yemen in October 2021. The health center is one of nine health facilities where USAID funded the rehabilitation of water, sanitation, and hygiene infrastructure. “Hygiene is invaluable,” Ali said. “Communities that do not have access to clean and adequate sewage systems are at great risk.” In Fiscal Year 2021, USAID provided more than 1.5 million vulnerable Yemenis with sustainable access to clean water, improved sanitation services, and hygiene awareness sessions to prevent the spread of communicable diseases such as cholera and COVID-19.
