U.S. Marine Corps Brig. Gen. Kyle Ellison, the deputy commanding general 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), and Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) leadership observe bilateral combat maneuver drills at Combined Arms Training Center (CATC) Camp Fuji, Japan, March 15, 2022. The drills allowed the 1st Amphibious Rapid Deployment Regiment (1ARDR) to hone their combat maneuvers during bilateral operations to create a more cohesive force. Maritime Defense Exercise Amphibious Rapid Deployment Brigade is a bilateral exercise meant to increase interoperability and strengthen ties between U.S. and Japanese forces for the defense of Japan.
