“VMGR” is stenciled onto the fuselage tank assembly inside of a KC-130J Super Hercules with Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 234, Marine Aircraft Group 41, Marine Forces Reserve, Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth, Texas, March 10, 2022. The fuselage tank assembly enables the aircraft to carry an additional 25,000 pounds, equivalent to about 3600 gallons of fuel, according to Capt. Evan Gumbel, a KC-130J Super Hercules pilot with VMGR-234, MAG-41, Marine Forces Reserve. “[The assembly] offers a few advantages. It allows us to carry much more fuel, letting us extend the range of aircraft like the [MV-22B] Osprey by an additional 1500 miles, roughly,” says Gumbel, “It also increases the fuel pressure within the system, letting us get the fuel out to those aircraft faster.” (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl.
