220314-N-AC165-N-0001 - Military Sealift Command’s Fleet replenishment oiler, USNS Kanawha (T-AO 196), returned to Naval Station Norfolk Mar. 14, after completing an eventful five-month deployment in Fifth Fleet, which includes 2.5 million square miles of water that surrounds the Arabian Gulf, Gulf of Oman, Red Sea, and parts of the Indian Ocean. The picture above shows the helicopter pad on Indian ship, INS Ranvir (right) with Kanawha, alongside. Kanawha’s flexibility and commitment enabled the safe execution of 37 at-sea replenishments and the transfer of more than 9.6 million gallons of fuel, 1,634 pallets of critical cargo, and two personnel. Currently, one of 16 vessels operating in her class, Kanawha is a Henry J. Kaiser-class underway replenishment oiler operated by Military Sealift Command. CLF ships allow Navy warships to remain on station indefinitely, projecting power. To learn more about MSC, visit www.msc.navy.mil.
