LDEF (Postflight) EL-1994-00289 LDEF (Postflight) The image provides an overall view of LDEF experiments located in Bays A , the bay adjacent to the center ring structure, thru Bay C in Rows 06, the upper row, thru Row 09, the lower row. The LDEF is mounted on the LDEF Assembly and Transport System (LATS) in the rotation mode. The surfaces of experiments located on LDEF rows 09, 08, and 07 were facing in the direction of the orbital velocity vector with row 09 experiments exposed to the highest flux level of atomic oxygen and rows 08 and 07 receiving lesser flux. The image shows the surfaces immediately after the LDEF arrived in SAEF II and prior to initiation of deintegration operations. Most experiments appear to be intact. The silver TEFLONΆ_ thermal cover material on experiments located in the A09 and C08 positions appears opaque while the same material in the B07 and C06 appears specular. The yellow paint on the scuff plate and the white paint on experiment surfaces appear in near prelaunch condition.
