"My husband just completed his seventh deployment. While I have a lot of experience, I’ve never quite felt ready for the next deployment. It’s hard the first time and it’s hard the seventh. When my husband deployed the first time our oldest daughter was only six months old, during the most recent deployment she turned 19. Each deployment was a little different based on the stages of life we were in. Some deployments I was so busy with toddlers, we were just surviving. Others I had a lot more time on my hands and volunteered as a way to pass the time. Find a balance that works for you in the place you’re at in life. Find a way to connect with your service member abroad, whether that means watching episodes of the same show or reading a book together. I loved having something to talk about that we could both relate to even though we were living totally different lives. Most of all be kind to yourself, there are going to be really hard days and it’s okay to wallow a little as long as you don’t stay there too long. We’re all thinking of you! "
