U.S. Army Corps of Engineers South Pacific Border District employees monitor airlift operations during make safe work at the San Diego 4 former DoD-funded border barrier construction site near San Diego, California, Feb. 9. The helicopter transported metal netting used to prevent boulders from falling onto the roads below. The District began safety work in 2021 on all former wall construction sites in the U.S. Border Patrol’s San Diego sector. This work did not involve expanding the border barrier and specific activities included filling open trenches, cutting and capping conduit, making gate foundations safe, making maintenance roads safe, and grading around handholds and manholes.
