A U.S. Marine with Maritime Raid Force, 31st Marine Expeditonary Unit (MEU), assembles his gear prior to a visit, board, search and seizure (VBSS) operation aboard the amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6), Philippine Sea, Feb. 2, 2022. VBSS training reinforces the Marine Corps’ presence within the weapons engagement zone by having a team ready to act in a moment’s notice. The 31st MEU is operating aboard ships of America Amphibious Ready Group in the 7th fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
