U.S. Air Force Airmen from the New York Air National Guard’s 109th Airlift Wing erect a shelter from a parachute while taking part in Barren Land Arctic Survival Training (BLAST) at Raven Camp, Greenland. During BLAST students spend three days on the polar icecap learning to survive in barren Arctic conditions. They learn to use life sustaining supplies stored on the LC-130 Skibird, build snow shelters and signal for recovery.
