The Boise States University ROTC cadets were engaged in their first field exercise of the 2022 Spring Semester in the foothills above the City of Boise. When the first group arrived the sky was gray, the winds were calm and there was no precipitation. As the cadets began hiking the hillside to the training area the winds and snow increased making the exercise more of a challenge.

As the remainder of cadets began arriving at the training site a sudden blast of snow eventually dropped more than two and a half inches of snow in a matter of a two hours. National Weather Service Meteorologists said, “ We weren’t anticipating it to be as heavy as it ended up being today.” Local weather predictions were a light dusting.

As the visibility in the training area decreased and the roads began developing into hazardous driving conditions, ROTC leaders called off the remainder of the exercise and ushered the cadets back down the hillside to their vehicles and home.

The Office of Visual Information for Idaho Army National Guard will follow the Boise State University Bronco Battalion for the Spring 2022 Semester through graduation. The program trains young men and women to serve as officers and leaders. Graduates will serve as officers in the U.S. Army, the Army National Guard, and the U.S. Army Reserves. Several seniors scheduled to graduate will eventually serve in the Idaho Army National Guard, while some cadets are already currently serving in the Idaho Army National Guard while attending BSU. Many officers currently serving in the Idaho Army National Guard are graduates of the Bronco Battalion.
