Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Kallysta Castillo, from Odessa, Texas, assigned to USS Gerald R. Ford’s (CVN 78) media department, conducts training on Visual Information Personnel (VIPER) in support of Phase III Crew Certification, Jan. 26, 2022. Phase III Crew Certification focuses on how the ship’s training teams accomplish necessary crew training needed to return the ship to sea. Ford is in port at Newport News Shipyard executing her Planned Incremental Availability (PIA), a six-month period of modernization, maintenance and repairs.
