Operation Allies Welcome - Operation Allies Refuge

U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Peter Santana, an administrative specialist with Headquarters Company, 23rd Marine Regiment, from Rodeo, California, and Cpl. Devinderpal Bans, a field radio operator with Headquarters Battalion, 23rd Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, from San Fransisco, California, conduct Marine Corps Martial Arts Program training on Fort Pickett, Virginia, Jan. 12, 2022. The purpose of MCMAP is to strengthen the mental and moral resiliency of individual Marines through realistic combative training, warrior ethos studies, and physical hardening. The Department of Defense, through the U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible. This initiative provides Afghan personnel essential support at secure locations outside Afghanistan. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. James Stanfield)
